-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

MATLAB is an integrated technical computing environment that combines numeric computation, advanced graphics and visualisation, and a high-level programming language.

The latest version licensed by METU is available at ftp://ftp.cc.metu.edu.tr/PackagePrograms/Matlab/ and runs on these platforms: MS Windows NT/2000/XP/2003,/Vista, HP-UX, Linux, MacOS.

Toolboxes of Matlab Software and maximum concurrent (simultaneous) user numbers are as follows:

MATLAB (100 concurrent users)

Simulink (25)
Control System Toolbox (25)
System Identification Toolbox (10)
Image Processing Toolbox (15)
Mapping Toolbox (15)
Neural Network Toolbox (10)
Optimization Toolbox (15)
Signal Processing Toolbox (40)
Data Acquisition Toolbox (10)
Symbolic Math Toolbox (10)
Statistics Toolbox (15)
Financial Toolbox (15)
Financial Derivatives Toolbox (15)
Simulink Control Design (25)
Stateflow (15)
Wavelet Toolbox (15)
Bioinformatics (10)
Simbiology (10)

You can get the PC program source from licensed software ftp site:

ftp://ftp.cc.metu.edu.tr/PackagePrograms/Matlab/

Notice: Due to the license agreements that are made, this site is accessible to METU personnel only. For information about using .iso images of CD/DVD for installations : Daemon Tools ile CD/DVD Kalıplarından (ISO) Kurulum  (In Turkish)

Installation of Matlab on Windows :

1- You can get the PC program source from licensed software ftp site:

ftp://ftp.cc.metu.edu.tr/PackagePrograms/Matlab/,

2- To start an installation form the Matlab DVD iso file downloaded, it should be extracted to a folder with software like 7-zip, Winrar etc. (Daemon tools or burning the iso file into a DVD are other more inconvenient solutions). Start the installation by clicking the setup.exe file in that folder.

3- For Matlab versions later than 2008, at the beginning of setup, the "Install without using Internet" option should be selected. The necessary license.dat file and "File Installation Key" information are located in the installation folder; in the files license.dat and file_installation_key.txt respectively. "license.dat" file can be created by "notepad"or a similar text editor. The file content should be as follows:

SERVER matlab2.cc.metu.edu.tr 27005
USE_SERVER

During installation, depending on the version of Matlab, a "PLP password" or "File Installation Key" is required. You can find this PLP password and "File Installation Key" in Matlab directory at ftp.cc address given above or get them by sending an e-mail to swadminmetu.edu.tr.

Installation of Matlab for Linux:

For the installation of Matlab, a file named "license.dat" is needed. This file can be created by any text editor. Following line should be in the content of file:

SERVER matlab2.cc.metu.edu.tr 27005
USE_SERVER

You can start a Matlab session on orca and beluga Unix servers by entering "matlab" on the command line. To run matlab on servers and to use X-Windows environment please read  Information about XWINPRO and Cygwin/XFree86.

Important Note:

1) The older versions of Matlab Software, before 6.5 (R13), has only Simulink and Control System Toolboxes. Users who want to use the other toolboxes, should install Matlab 6.5 (R13)

2) Users, who installed Windows version of Matlab 6.5 (R13), before 23/06/2003, should install additional toolboxes with new PLP number, for installing toolboxes except Simulink and Control System toolboxes. There is no need to install the software completely again, an making a change in license file. Linux version users don not have to make any change on their settings. It is enough to restart the installation and to add new toolboxes.

Frequently Asked Questions About Matlab

Q: I want to use the software from outside METU. How can I do it?
A: METU is bound by the restrictions which are arranged and specified expressly in the terms of software license agreements. According to these agreements, the licensed software can only be used solely for academic purposes and strictly within the boundaries of METU. It is expressly forbidden to use the software from outside METU.

Q: I am getting a license error during the first launch of the program after installation?

A: Check the internet connection and then the network.lic file in matlab installation folder, usually at "C:\Program Files\MATLAB\R2011a\licenses\network.lic" the content should be as follows:

SERVER matlab2.cc.metu.edu.tr 27005
USE_SERVER

Q: I am running out of disc space because of the files that are automatically created whenever I run the software and/or the output files that I myself have created, can you increase my quota limits?
A: We have created a directory named "/temp" on central servers systems (such as beluga, orca, narwhal, rorqual, tasman); so that our users can execute and work with oversize files without experiencing disc space problems. By creating another directory within the "/temp" folder, you can carry out tasks and perform your operations. To create another directory within "/temp" folder, use the following command: "mkdir directory_name". You should be mindful of the fact that other users may also need space within this folder; so, after you are done with your work, do not forget to delete all the files you have created in the folder.

Q: Although I specify the location of the license file as I am trying to install the software, "file not found" error message is being displayed. What should I do?
A: When the system prompts the location of the license file, you should specify only the directory of the license file; do not include the file name.
e.g.: If the license file is located in the following path C:\Program Files\Matlab\, you should specify the location as C:\Program Files\Matlab\ (If you specify the location as C:\Program Files\Matlab\license.dat, it is highly probable that you will receive an error message).
