DESIGNING A PERSONAL WEB PAGE: 1. Choosing the header image and arranging the page layout 1. Choosing the header image and arranging the page layout: At the header image selection section you can choose the border image which you would like to be displayed at the header of your personal web page. At the page layout section it is possible to choose the color of the background and the font character. You can select the image and the colors by clicking on them. In order to see what your choices look like, you can click on the
In order to fill in the page title information that would appear at the left top corner of your browser, enter the information in the related field.
Once the title is added, your page will look like the sample shown below:
The color of the character fonts of the script on the web page must suit the design. For example, if you have chosen the mid section background dark, the color of the characters, to be legible, must be in light colors like white or yellow. Similarly select the character font type and proceed. In this section of the wizard there are parts to add a section title and content to your web page. On your personal web page there can be five sections at most. Click on the For every link you want to place on your personal web page, on each line of the table, write the name of the link on the left column and its address on the right column. When writing the address of the link, be sure to continue writing after the 'http://' phrase. Addresses without the 'http://' (e.g. www.page.com) will cause misdirection and yield an error.

You can add only one image on the web page you have designed by using the web page design wizard. The width of the image to be added must not exceed 650 pixels. Of the larger images only the 650 pixel part will show up. That is why we recommend reducing the width, prior to uploading images. If you face problems while trying to change the image, you can delete it and add again. When the
If you are using "Firefox" or "Netscape" as a browser, it might not be possible to display the images and hence add to the web page. From the list that comes up on the screen find the "security.checkloaduri" option and by double clicking on it, from the screen that appears, change the setting from true to false. The option setting after the change must be as shown below:
6. How to publish the designed web page on the Internet? Using the
When saving your page you must change the name as index and the extension as .htm or .html. Furthermore you must take care to save the complete page including the pictures.
In this way there will form an index.htm file and a folder named index_files, inside the folder you have saved your web page at. The images you have used at your web page will have been saved inside the index_files folder. In order to publish your web page, you have to upload, using FTP, the index.htm file and the index_files folder, where the images used in the file are kept, to your personal account, formatted as user_name@ metu.edu.tr, registered at the central servers.
You can get further information about accessing your personal account and file transfer issues from CC Frequently Asked Questions page. |
