ABAQUS

Abaqus is a finite element analysis software which can solve non-linear problems.

To install Abaqus and documentation on Windows or Linux platforms, you can borrow CD/DVD's from CC Software library (METU CC Room no:109) or download them from licensed software ftp site ftp.cc.metu.edu.tr (recomended for the recent versions).

For information about using .iso images of CD/DVD for installations : Daemon Tools ile CD/DVD Kalıplarından (ISO) Kurulum  (In Turkish). Due to the license agreements, this site is accessible to METU personnel only.

Older versions of the software can be run on orca, and beluga Unix servers and pc's (Windows and Linux). For running Abaqus on Unix servers, X-Windows* (Information about XWINPRO and Cygwin/XFree86) may be required. To run Abaqus on Unix servers following command should be typed:

abaqus

Abaqus Installation on Windows:

Start setup from the DVD or DVD iso file or the folder that the iso file is extracted into. If you prefer to have documentation you should install it before the software. The documentation is not a requirement for the setup.

To install Abaqus; select "Product" as "Installation Type". When "License Server" is asked it should be entered as 1701@abaqus.cc.metu.edu.tr .

NOTE 1: When the license server information is entered you may get an error message, ignore the message and finish the installation. Before running Abaqus please edit the file abaqus_v6.env located at C:\abaqus\6.7-1\site (default location) by notepad and make sure that the last line is as follows:

abaquslm_license_file="1701@abaqus.cc.metu.edu.tr" 

NOTE 2: At the initial steps of the installation, an error about license server my be recevied. In this situation, quit setup, open TCP/IP (Internet) Settings and add cc.metu.edu.tr to DNS suffix section in  advanced settings of TCP/IP . After this, entering license server information in the form

"1701@abaqus" (without the quotes) to the installation windows may solve the problem. 

Abaqus Installation on Linux:

Abqaqus supports only RedHat and Suse Enterprise (commercial) Linux distributions. For any other Linux distributions there are several problems and obstacles in installation and then some potential problems during the use of the program.  The following document is a tutorial about how to install Abaqus 6.10-2 64bit on "Linux Mint 64 bit v10 (Julia)". Linux Mint is a very similar distribution to Ubuntu (both based on Debian). So, depending on the version and distribution of Linux there may be different problems and different workarounds may be required:
