For our members' and students' secure off-campus connection to the resources that METU Library has membership to, Off-Campus Web Caching Service has been started.
The procedures to be followed to use this service are given below. If the users connect to the resources inside METU or via the dial up connection service of METU, it is not necessary to follow these steps. The operations below apply only if the connection is to be made to the resources via service providers other than METU.
Procedures to be followed to access the Library resources via a service provider other than METU:
1. The configuration of the web caching service to the web browser: The users who make Internet connection via a service provider other than METU and want to use the web caching service to take advantage of the resources that METU Library has membership to, should make web caching configuration on their web browser. These settings are explained on this link http://www.cc.metu.edu.tr/708-webcaching-service-inside-the-campus . Unless changed by the user, it is sufficient to make these settings only once.
2. Obtaining Authorization for Web Caching Service Usage: Before connecting to the resource in question, the user should login the page http://netregister.cc.metu.edu.tr with their user code and password on central servers and get their One Time Password. This password is valid for only 2 hours and is to be used only for accessing material that the Library has membership to. When the user code and password are asked from the user while accessing the material, this one time password has to be used.
Explanatory Notes :
-Security warnings may come more than once to provide the security of the user code and password. The contents of these warnings should be checked before approval.
-Since each user code and one time password couple is valid only for two hours, the procedures described in step 2 should be repeated at the end of two hours.
-The one time password should be re-entered for each new browser window opened. The users can use the same one time password for each new window during the two hour period.
-A user can make connection from a single computer at a time.
-When the user does not want to use the service or want to access the web sites without entering their user codes, they can temporarily remove the setting done in step 1. |
