You have to own a user code on the systems and a modem to be able to establish a modem connection with METU systems. The next thing you have to do is to do the required configurations. The document below includes all the steps to carry out Windows XP connection configuration process.
Installing the modem
Before doing the configuration, your computer should detect your modem. To do this:
Choose "Phones and Modems" from "Control Panel"


Select "Modems" in the window that is displayed. Then click "Add" button.

Click "Next" to make Windows detect your modem.
This process is explained to detect the modem automatically; if you would rather detect it manually, follow these steps: Select "Don't detect my modem; I will select it from a list" option and then click "Next" button.Click Have Disk on the next page that is displayed.

After the detection of modem is completed, the name and the type of your modem will be displayed on the next window.

Click "OK" and "Finish" buttons respectively to finish the process.

Configuring the Modem
Now, to establish your dial-up connection, open the "Control Panel" on Start menu.

Select Internet Options and double click the mouse.
Select "Connections".

Only put a check mark next to "Dial whenever a network connection is notpresent" expression. If you are unable to do this process, perform the other configuration steps at the first instance and come back to this page. Click "Add" button.

In the window that opens choose "Dial-up to private network".

You have to enter the dial-up phone numbers in this field: If you are METU academic or administrative staff , dial one of 08223141014 or 2104300 If you are METU student then dial 2104300
Proceed by clicking on the "Next" button.

Enter the name of your connection here. You can choose any name you like.

After filling out this field, you can then double click "Properties" button to select "Options" on the next window.
 Put a check mark next to "Redial if line is dropped" expression. Select "Security".

Put a check mark in the box next to the "Show terminal window" expression. Select "Networking" menu.
Open the "Settings" and put a check mark next to "Enable Software Compression". Click OK button and exit. Select the "Internet protocol" and "Client for Microsoft Networks" boxes. Select "TCP/IP" option and click the "Properties" button.

Put a check mark in the box next to the "Use the following DNS server adresses" expression and enter the Server IP number as "144.122.199.20" in the related fields as shown above. Then click "Advanced".

Select "Append these DNS suffixes" and enter the addresses with "Add" button. Click OK button on the pages displayed afterwards and exit.
Close all windows with pressing "OK"...
Making the dial-up connection
Go to "Start" and then choose "Connect to" and click on your connection to make your dial up connection

Establish the connection by clicking on the "Dial" button.

Enter your "login" name and "password" belonging to your METU account.

Enter "PPP" on the METU command line and click "enter".
Then click on the "F7" key and "Done" button. Your connection must have been established...
Using Scripts
You can use the scripts below while connecting, if you do not want to type "user name", "password" and "ppp" everytime you establish a connection. These scripts will type them for you. The steps are as the following:
1. Download "metu-pri.scp" to your computer for 0 822 314 10 14 Metu PRI lines.
2. Download "metu-cs.scp" to your computer for 2104300 Metu analog lines.
3. Double-click on the connection icon on your Desktop, click "Properties". a. Unselect "Show terminal window". b. Select "Run Script". Click on "Browse" and find the right script you downloaded. ("metu-pri.scp" if you dial in 0 822 314 10 14 ; "metu-cs.scp" if you dial in 2104300 analog lines) c. Click "OK"
4. You will see the "Connect ODTÜ" window, write your user name and password. Then click "Dial".
