Dial-up Internet Connectıon Procedure - Windows 2000

To be able to connect to METU systems via a modem you should have a user code on that system and a modem. Then you should configure your connection. The following document contains the steps that you will need while configuring your connection on Windows 2000.

Setting Up Your Modem

Run through the first two steps as a check even if your modem is already set up.

1. Select Settings from the "Start Menu" and then select "Control Panel".

2. Double-click on the "Phone and Modem Options" icon and click the "Modems" tab to see the list of modems set up on your computer/

If you see the model of your modem listed here, click "OK" and go to the next section.

If you don't see your modem listed, click "Cancel" and proceed with step3.

3. In the "Control Panel" window, double-click on the "Add/Remove Hardware" icon and follow the on-screen instructions. We recommend that you allow Windows 2000 to search for and install your modem automatically. Using Script

You can use the scripts below while connecting, if you do not want to type "user name", "password" and "ppp" everytime you establish a connection. These scripts will type them for you. The steps are as the following:

1. Download "metu-pri.scp" to your computer for 0 822 314 10 14 Metu PRI lines.
2. Download "metu-cs.scp" to your computer for 2104300 Metu analog lines.
3. Double-click on the connection icon on your Desktop, click "Properties"/

a. Unselect "Show terminal window".

b. Select "Run Script". Click on "Browse" and find the right script you downloaded.  (metu-pri.scp if you dial in 0 822 314 10 14 ;
metu-cs.scp if you dial in 2104300 analog lines)

c. Click "OK"

4. You will see the "Connect ODTÜ" window, write your user name and password. Then click "Dial".

5. You can see if your connection is established from the icon in your taskbar.
Note : When you use the correct password and you select "Save Password" checkbox, connection works  for the first time.
If the second time, the connection does not work: This was an announced problem of Windows 2000.
Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 contains this fix. What we recommend is, either to download SP3  or  not to select the Save Password checkbox and write the password every time you want to connect.
